In a CNC Turn Mill, you generally have X & Z axes of the conventional lathe machine. The spindle doubles as C axis during turn milling operations. Milling is accomplished by rotating live tools that are mounted on the turret.
In a turn mill center without a Y axis, you maybe only drill radial holes on the cylindrical surface of a shaft. If you want to perform any non radial operation on the cylindrical surface of the job (like hole drilling, slotting etc) you need to have a Y axis.
Eg, Suppose you have a dia 100 pipe. It has one hole passing through its center. This hole can be drilled by a standard turnmill only having X&Z axis. Suppose you have to drill two additional holes offset to the central hole by 15 mm, then you require Y axis motion too.
So Y axis motion is required on a turn mill center if you want to perform any eccentric or non radial milling/ drilling operations on the cylindrical surface of the job.
SmartekMech has a variety of high-precision and high-quality CNC equipment with Y-axis, which can help you produce efficiently and quickly. Our equipment not only accepts customized design, but also has a professional after-sales service team to escort your use.
